However, supplements are not regulated in the United States, and many supplements found in health food stores and grocery stores do not have the stated concentration of ingredients claimed on the label. In fact studies have shown that some supplements do not have any of the ingredients they claim. This is particularly true of supplements like CoQ10 that are difficult to manufacture,

Many of the manufacturers of professional supplements, such as those used by physicians naturopaths and other healthcare providers, sought a solution for this problem. New voluntary manufacturing standards were devised for those companies that wanted the ability to demonstrate the quality of their products. Part of those standards include third party testing by independent laboratories to verify the content of their supplements. Companies like Integrated Therapeutics went a step further by utilizing the same controls and standards required by pharmaceutical companies.
